House For Sale

The house accross the street from us is for sale and I was just thinking... it is a 5 bedroom home...Melinda and Joseph could have one room, Steph could have the other, Afton another, and Brett another. You could all do your own thing - sort of. We would home school everyone, Steph could teach math, accounting, psychology; Afton, church history, skating, and weights; Melinda could teach cooking, sewing, careers; Joseph could teach computers; Brett could be the P.E. teacher and the rest would be students. No bus (walk accross the street to school) No bad influences (except for Afton controlling saying the F word) No annoying teachers, Dad would pay bills and teachers wages. I think I have something here!!! "Ever Who's Game" pack your things and head home!!!
As a mom you really feel like this some of the time. I guess the "living in the world" part is important too. Please be careful out there in this wicked world. Read and pray! And remember that I LOVE YOU!!

Accouting is becoming a bit sweeter...

Student Test Scores
Test Score Percent
72
90%
Need I say more?
So that something I was excited about... considering that the highest score on my other accounting tests were no more than a 52%...

Manassa! Here we come!

Grandma Ouida called yesterday and said she's so excited that she can't even comb her hair. (I'm not sure what excitement has to do with hair???)

She also said that there are cars already parked across the street saving their place for the parade.

We are leaving tonight about 7:30 or 8 which will put us there at about 11 PM at the earliest. Probably will be closer to midnight.

We are going to party 24/7!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are bringing the 4 wheelers. I have asked Stephanie to do a "short presentaion" on a topic of her choosing. Maybe Friday night.

We are going to return to Colorado Springs on Saturday afternoon. I have to be back in time for a 7 PM rehearsal for Aaron's Camp and Mom wants to go to some dumb reception.

See ya'll there!

The best dad in all the world.

Nashville

July 7-14 We got to go to Tennessee with 3 of my students and 14 of Provo High's kids. What an experience it was - to say the least! We got in late Friday night to this amazing hotel! Joseph looked it up and it cost around $200 per night (which is $180 more then the crappy motel we stayed in just one week prior in Amarillo). There were 4 sit down restaurants, a full service spa, 4 swimming pools with big screen movies playing every night, shopping for all your needs, with over 10,000 rooms! This place was like it's own city! I felt like we were in Costa Rica again with all of the gardens and waterfalls. They had shows every night of the week with amazing acrobats that performed unbelievable moves-honestly I would never have believed they actually did the moves if I hadn't seen them with my own eyes!

Saturday was our anniversary (which we spent with 18 other people) and we got to ride in a Limo to the Hermitage where President Andrew Jackson lived. It was really cool to see all of the old artifacts and the history. We went to an "under water" restaurant to eat lunch and had amazing stuffed shrimp and pecan pie! We finished off the day with a trip to the mall, a massage for me, books for Joseph, and The Grand Ole Opry!

Sunday we pulled up to church in a Limo.....it was the cheapest way to get places but totally embarrassing to go to church in. It was a small branch with around 20 people. We brought over 100 people so they were really happy to have us (except for the speakers!)

The rest of the week was just spent in meetings and keeping track of kids. But the last day was spent downtown in Music City USA! We even went to the Coyote Ugly Saloon and danced on the bar....just kidding I really wanted to but then I remembered that I had 13 year old girls with me who had parents who would see pictures:) We had amazing steak for dinner and spent more money on that dinner then we do on rent (which in not saying much if you have seen our "house") but it was worth it! We got filet mignon and creme brulee and pretended that we were rich and famous! It was the best steak I have ever tasted and I don't ever want to cook steak again because it will never be as good as a Ruth's Chris steak.
Diane had a friend that showed us around the Music Lane. We even got to go into her husbands office where he films music videos and does cover art for upcoming country stars! We saw pictures of Faith Hill, Jo De Massina, Travis Tritt, Dolly Parton, well you got the picture! It was really cool to see all the work that goes into movies is the same amount of work that goes into music. I loved it. And the best part is is she gave us 6 free CD's! We loved our trip and loved the friendly country folk in Nashville!

Just to keep everyone up to speed, Joseph did not get into BYU for this fall because of his little work experience. But the BYU MBA director called and highly encouraged him to reactivate his application in October for Fall 2007 and we are confident that he will get a scholarship. We really are happy about this decision because it opens more doors for this next year and opens more doors to other schools if that feels right. We will see.

I'm Not Getting Older, I'm Just Getting Better!!!!!!!!

Lately, I've had this fascination with numbers. Why do we have numbers? Where did they come from? Is there any value in having more than 7 numbers (that's how long the creation took)? Why is time divided by numbers? In fact, why should we even have division or multiplication or addition or subtraction? I guess it's part of mortality.

Here are the numbers I've been thinking about.

When Annalise is 20 . . .

Joseph will be 41, Mel will be 40, Stephanie 37, Afton 36, Brett 34, Mark 30, John 28 and Matthew 24. Mom and I will be hitting our peak earning potential. My prediction is that Joseph and Mel will have 5 kids by then. Steph will have 4. Afton 4. Brett 5. Mark 3. John 3. Matt-getting married soon. Joseph will have lost most of his hair and will be taking pictures at Matt's wedding. Melinda's oldest will just be starting High School. Steph's oldest will be in Middle school. Afton's too. Brett will have all boys with the oldest being mean and determined in 6th grade. Mark's and John's will be in elementary school. The three oldest girls will have added between 3 and 10 inches to their waistline. Brett will weigh almost 200 pounds and be balding. Mark will still weigh less than John but still have his hair. John will have his hair and weigh 10 pounds more than Mark. Matt will weigh 160 pounds and be five feet eleven inches tall.

Can you get the picture? Mom and I will still look younger than our age. We will both be healthy, wealthy and wise. Or should I say, healthier, wealthier and wiser?

So, before you cast the first stone. Look at the numbers.

Happy birthday to me! I'm so glad to be alive. I feel lucky to be your Dad.

Love,
Dad

Deafening Silence

Our usually over exuberant father is uncharaceristically quiet these days... one must wonder why the lack of inspirational thoughts? Why the collection of funds due to lack of posts hasn't been subtracted from our bank accounts? Could our color identity crisis Father be locked up in his study reading a book on how to be a 'true yellow'? Could he be working.... naw. Or could our father, often mistaken as a younger man, be wollowing in the realization of time. Time that seems to have slipped past him and onto his ever growing salt and pepper hair. It is true- our father/husband is turning the big 50 tomorrow. Funny how mom takes a picture to commemorate the occasion, whilst father is pretending it away. Or maybe he just wants us to focus on the day being Jessicas and Grandpas birthdays. Is that what it is? Well happy birthday Jessica and Grandpa, but this is not why we are gathered here today. It is dads last day 'young'. How has the ride been so far father? You will be 50- enjoy. The deafening silence will be a reality shortly. Your height will decrease inch by inch, but not your pants, those will rise and rise. You will be the grandpa shortly (no pressure Mel). Isn't is lovely? Happy Birthday father!
